A Typical Adult Tall Ship Adventure
An adult Tall Ship adventure is availabe for all ages (18-80). Join the ship as an active member of the voyage crew on board the TS Pelican during an adult Tall Ship Adventure. You will steer the ship, navigate, climb the rigging and set the sails. With the crew on hand to guide you, no previous sailing experience is necessary - just energy and enthusiasm.
Being on board is a hands-on experience involving sail handling, watch keeping, working aloft, cleaning the ship, maintenance and food preparation.
You will be a member of a watch (a nautical term for team) led by a volunteer Watch Leader, who has previous sailing experience. The Watch Leader will help you settle in and assist you throughout your voyage.
Day 1
"Joining Day"
- 1300-1400, voyage crew arrive and join the ship.
- You will sign on with the Captain on arrival.
- First Mate's Safety Briefing
- Ship's tour by Watch Leaders.
- Muster Briefing and Lifeboat stations.
- Seamanship and rig-climbing instruction.
- Shore leave in Weymouth or set sail for sea.
Day 2
First day at sea - Sailing towards selected channel port.
- Training and Seamanship lectures will be given to those who are interested.
- Early evening - arrive in channel port.
- Shore leave and harbour watches.
Day 3
Morning in port - after the ship's duties have been completed, the voyage crew will have time to go ashore and explore.
- Prepare for sea.
- Depart early evening.
- At sea overnight - night watches.
Day 4
Day at sea - possible second port.
- The aim today is to sail the ship as much as possible with coaching from the permanent crew.
- Overnight at sea.
Day 5
Final Day
- Morning sail along the Jurassic Coast.
- Disembark at 1100.
