THOUSANDS of people discovered the county’s finest entertainment, food and visitor attractions at a record-breaking leisure show at Weymouth Pavilion.
Balloon modelling, live musical entertainment on the stage, sample products, Tall Ships experience days and a pirate promoting Nothe Fort were among the highlights of Best of Dorset show inside the Ocean Room.
Outside attractions included the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, SailLaser Sailing centre and Official Test Centre windsurfing facility, plus an open day at Weymouth’s very own Tall Ship Pelican.
Organiser Steve Davies, representing the borough council, said: “It was simply a record-breaking show.
“The sunny weather brought in 1,550 people, probably 500 more than we’ve had before.
“There was great enthusiasm and a lot of interest in the outdoor features with the TS Pelican, the sailing academy, National Trust and outdoor cycle hire.
Lou Keeling, TS Pelican spokesman, said: “It’s been really busy, lots of enquiries and a few bookings for the Tall Ships Race in June and day sails. Over a thousand people have come onboard to enjoy a tour of the ship today as well.
“It’s also been nice to meet all the other Dorset businesses and see what they’re doing this year.”
