Get on board! Get qualified!
Adventure under Sail has teamed up with national accreditation body OCNWMR and the training team at YMCA North Staffs to bring you a qualification which is exclusive to the tall ship Pelican.
Equivalent to 3 GCSEs when completed, the Programme in Development of Employability and Living Skills is specifically tailored to help young people gain practical skills which will;
- Make you more employable
- Enhance your CV/further education application
- Enhance your job prospects
- Increase your interpersonal qualities
Through joining our training ship for a voyage, young people can complete the training programme to fit in with the everyday running of the ship. Tasks such as keeping watch, helping in the galley and setting sails all encourage team work, leadership and delegation in a real environment; going aloft can help young people to face personal challenges and overcome fears; whilst taking part in night watches and time-keeping helps to encourage self discipline.
Units within this programme include:
- Health and Safety on Board Ship
- Teamwork and Communication on Board Ship
- Lifeskills Development on Board Ship
- Waste Disposal on Board Ship
- Shipboard Project.
